After Easter Mission

Easter is one of the most incredible days in world history, especially for Christians. We celebrate our Risen Savior, who has changed time and the course of humanity. The death and resurrection of Jesus have given us hope, healing, and eternity with Him. It is no surprise that Easter is one of the two most attended weeks in churches across the world, in tandem with the other celebration of Jesus’s birth.

Churches and Pastors prepare for months to get ready for this fantastic time of celebration. Everyone dresses up, gets excited, and goes to service to renew their focus on Jesus. For many, this is their bi-annual visit to church.

But what happens in the church and in life once this day has passed? This is where real life happens. I liken it to a wedding day. For months and sometimes years, the bride and groom plan the big event. They send out invitations, have a beautiful ceremony, and a festive celebration at the reception. Many times, they then go on a honeymoon and enjoy the time of their lives. When they come back, they have to live as husband and wife, and life can get hard.

What we celebrate at Easter is not a once-in-a-year event. It should be a daily celebration, a life-long commitment, and a change in how we live. The end of Easter Sunday should not be the end of Christ’s victory in our lives; it is the very beginning.

If you were alive in the days that Jesus was crucified then rose again, you would have watched Him ascend up to heaven after letting you know that He would always be with you, that one day you will be with Him and that each day on this earth you have a mission to live.

Live the Easter life every day.

Here is your Easter mission if you choose to accept it.

Part 1: Love one another.

You are to fully love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength and your neighbor as yourself. That is your new daily life and devotion to God.

Part 2: Make disciples (other followers) of Jesus and give those around you hope in this life and hope for eternity.

Your celebration should not end after Easter Sunday; it should have just begun and be lived out every day in joy and hope. You will have troubles, just as Jesus did, but you will have victory today and forever. Celebrate that and let others see your hope!

Here are some essential questions for the week to answer and keep in front of you:

1) How well do you live the great commandment to love?

2) How well do you live the great commission to spread God’s salvation through Jesus?

3) How much do you celebrate each day with God?

Prayer: “Dear Jesus, you are my salvation and my celebration. Help me to love you, to live for you, and to share you with others. This world is temporary and fleeting, but you are forever, and your Word is the truth. I will celebrate you every day and spread your love in every way. Amen”

Scriptures: Matthew 22:35-40, Matthew 28:16-20
